Who we are

    Our Church

Churches, like individuals, can be similar to one another and yet often draw us into relationship by their differences.  If you are wondering how By Grace is similar or different from other churches you’ve been to, or what church is like at all, let us introduce you to our community.

    The people

If you were to join us for a Sunday gathering, you’d find yourself in the midst of about 50-75 people.  Our fellowship is just large enough that its easy to meet new folks, but no so big that you’ll feel lost in a sea of faces.  In general, we are  a younger congregation, but a have wide mix of life situations and careers -  you might meet a school teacher or a mechanic, an accountant or a ship-yard worker, a website designer or counselor.  We minister to many students from a nearby university, but one of our highest priorities is serving our families, especially those with young children.

    The service

In general, our Sunday Gatherings are “come-as-you-are” with casual dress, contemporary worship music and a strong emphasis on the teaching and receiving of the Word.  Please see our Sunday Gatherings page for a better idea of the fellowship, worship and teaching in our services.

    Other Opportunities

    • Kingdom Groups – An opportunity to engage through proximity.  These small groups meet by area location in Newport News to take a closer look at the Word and live closer in life together.
    • Children’s Ministry -  We endeavor to see every child saturated with God’s Word, engaging their heart, mind, and will to treasure Christ as Savior and Lord.
    • Mercy Ministry - Groups meet and travel to downtown Newport News to be with those who are homeless and/or struggling with drug and alcohol addictions.

If you have any questions about By Grace and the values, community, and culture that it entails,
