“The Bible teaches that the following are proper elements of worship service: reading of Holy Scripture, singing of psalms and hymns, the offering of prayer, the preaching of the Word, the presentation of offerings, confessing the faith and observing the Sacraments; and on special occasions taking oaths.” -As stated in the Book of Church Order, 47-9
Elements of our Sunday Gatherings
Meeting Others
As a visitor, you’ll have an opportunity to meet people, but you’ll never be asked to come “up front” or be put on the spot. Before the service we have a casual fellowship time where you’re free to mingle or enjoy coffee and light refreshments. The second Sunday of each month, everyone is invited to have a meal together following the service.
Musical Worship
Guitars, drums and other instruments are important elements in our musical worship. Each week we strive to provide an environment where people feel welcomed into the throne room of God, where they are free to sing, pray, or raise their hands as they feel so led. As we believe God is glorified through every culture and tongue, we value worshiping in a variety of styles- hymns, contemporary, gospel and even songs in different languages.
Teaching of the Word
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, and everything else we do as a church – pursuing relationships with one another, worshiping God with music or spoken word, prayer and service ministry – is based on the Truth found within its pages. Because God has graciously revealed both Himself and His will for our life in Scripture, we place a heavy emphasis on spending time in His word.
Each Sunday we take time to carefully examine the Scriptures, both listening as the Word is preached as well as reading and meditating on it at various times during the service. Musical worship helps us ready our hearts before hearing the Word and also provides time afterward for the Spirit to soften our hearts so that we receive it humbly and joyfully.
